Vacancy Description
As a Software Developer Apprentice, your key responsibilities will include:
- Assisting the Development team with designing, building and delivering code (in accordance with Software Development Life Cycle procedures)
- Ensuring all code is performant and tested prior to peer review
- Participating in daily stand-ups
- Participating in peer review (where applicable)
- Continued personal development of coding and testing skills
- Assisting with development support of Software Applications
- Ad hoc projects as required within Technology department
- Developing an understanding of: The business context and how the Developer role fits; Computer Architectures; Programming Concepts; Networking; Web Development; Object Oriented Systems Development; Web Applications; Design Patterns; Data Structures & Algorithms
On successful completion of Year 1 (12-15 months) you will further specialise in software development and continue to work towards a BA Hons in Digital and Technology Solutions. By specialising in software you should be able to design, build and test high-quality software solutions. You will be aiming to apply engineering principles to all stages of the software development process, from requirements, analysis and design to development. Not only will you receive invaluable learning, development and professional experience, you will also gain a BSc in Digital and Technology Solutions.

Personal qualities
- You must not hold an existing qualification at the same or higher level than this apprenticeship in a similar subject
- Living in the UK or in the European Economic Area (EEA) for the last 3 years
- Not be registered to study on a UK government funded course ending August 2019
Desired qualifications
Essential:
- A-levels (BBB) or equivalent Level 3 qualifications
- English (C/4) and Maths (B/5) Level 2 (minimum) or equivalent
- or later
Desirable:
- Knowledge of .NET, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, C#, MVC
Future prospects
- There might be the opportunity to apply for vacancies at the end of the apprenticeship
Things to consider
For the first term (October-December) of Year 1 and 2, you will be studying at the University of Essex and you will need to attend full time. The rest of the time will be spent working with Phlexglobal in Colchester, Essex and undertaking distance learning.
