Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide general day to day administration and support for all IT systems and facilities including the PC networks used by the Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council, dealing with problems and enquiries and providing advice and support
  • Scheduling meetings with users and in recording minutes of meetings with users and suppliers
  • General administrative support for any procurement of IT system
  • Carrying out periodical audit of the location of equipment and software licenses
  • Refer operational problems to the IT Help Desk where necessary, monitoring records of Help Desk calls and their resolution and reviewing equipment downtime
  • Generate data, statistics and reports for end users, where they are unable to achieve this locally or liaise with the IT suppliers on the production of reports
  • Ensure that systems documentation is kept up to date
  • Assist in raising orders and paying invoices for IT software, hardware and services
  • Any other appropriate duties as and when required

Desired skills

  • Must have experience of working with and enthusiasm for computers/IT e.g. building computers, developing a website, blogs etc.
  • Good knowledge of IS and IT
  • Good knowledge of a programming language, operating system or IT hardware
  • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing to a range of people
  • Good attention to detail
  • Have good communication skills
  • Ability to organise own workload and meet deadlines ensuring work and study commitments are met at all times
  • Ability to use own initiative and analytical thinking to solve problems in respect of computer usage
  • Ability to assess andpriorities within varied workloads
  • Able to gather requirements, understand business priorities and work constructively with users to develop IT solutions

Personal qualities

  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Able to work independently and in a team

Desired qualifications

Must have level 3 ICT qualification or 2 "A" levels.

GCSE Grade C (4) or above or equivalentin English and maths.

Predicted grades will be accepted at application stage but evidence in the form of certificates would need to be produced before a formal job offer could be made.

This is a fixed term contract for two years.
