You will be part of the SPEND Team at Stockport Council. This team provides support to all Council Services to buy goods and services, from sourcing pens and paper to supporting procurement of contracts worth millions of pounds.

You will meet many different people from different services both within and outside of the council. Building trusted relationships will be key. You will learn how the council runs its business; providing support and developing best practice and tools to enable managers to work with suppliers confidently.

Duties will include:
  • Working with services to fill in the appropriate paperwork to get authority to find a supplier
  • Getting quotes and negotiating prices with suppliers
  • Supporting services through procurement
  • Putting suppliers on the procurement systems
  • Using the procurement systems for ordering
  • Checking and problem solving when things go wrong
  • Analysing data to identify patterns and anomalies
  • Undertaking quality assurance check
  • Writing reports
  • Answering queries on the phone
  • Developing procedural guides
  • Developing Frequently asked questions
  • Developing the SPEND Intranet pages

You will be qualified as a procurement professional but will have the potential for a much wider reach influencing local policy, financial analysis, engaging in contract law, and developing strategy to deliver services.

Things to consider

The work will be mainly desk based.
