Role Overview:
  • Typically work as part of a team, under the control of a Project Architect, or more Senior Member of Staff. They will be expected to assist the team in the design and production of schemes within the office
  • Working on projects which may include a variety of construction projects including new buildings, alterations, extensions or restoration projects
  • Demonstrate and enhance communication skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

These may include:
  • Visiting proposed sites as required
  • Meet with clients to discuss project objectives, needs and budget
  • Prepare, develop and edit, under the guidance of the Project Leader or nominated Architect, drawings, models, images and other documents relating to the design
  • Carry out allocated tasks competently and professionally within determined timescales
  • Investigate Local rules and regulations to ensure the construction project falls within all constraints
  • Participating in design debate
  • Drawing and sketching design solutions manually and / or using 2D and 3D computer packages
  • Producing Reports and maintaining documents using programmes such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop and In Design
  • Assisting in preparing clear and accurate information (planning, building control, tender contract stages)
  • Working (learning how to work) within a team environment including external Consultants

  • Strong design awareness, and fundamental skills (quality of portfolio, graphic skills, aesthetically conscious etc.

Desired qualifications

  • Recognised first degree in architecture, 2.2 or above,or
  • Level 6 Architectural Assistant apprenticeship certificate,or
  • Recognised first degree in architecture which is notified to the European Commissionplus
  • Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade 7-4/A-C including minimum 6/B in maths and English (reformed GCSEs or equivalent at grade 4 or above)

Future prospects

We do not define boundaries, and will support ambitious staff to progress in the practice to a senior role.

Things to consider

Part of the process for London South Bank University will be an interview with the course director and a submission of a portfolio.
