Channel Ports Ltd was established in 1974 as a specialist Customs Broker.

We are one of the leading neutral customs clearance agents in the UK with a proven track record of quickly and efficiently keeping vehicles and consignments on the move through the customs clearance process.

After the opening in spring 2011 of the UK’s only purpose-built, Customs Clearance Centre the company is looking to further develop and grow its core business activities.

In addition to Customs Clearance it offers commercial vehicle parking, other services dedicated to the commercial lorry driver.

DESCRIPTION OF VACANCY
To effectively deliver a range of services and activities that enables the quick and efficient movement of vehicles through our terminals.

Use good interpersonal skills to liaise with all customers both external and internal, using all company-approved forms of communication promptly, efficiently and in an accurate and professional manner.

Actively promote the benefits of all Channel Ports services across all sites with the emphasis on own clearance centre at Stop 24.
Perform all duties and responsibilities relating to the commercial parking facility in accordance with company procedures including the sale of freight tickets in an accurate and courteous manner.
Accurately complete all customs entries documentation and online forms for efficient, cost effective and lawful execution of all import/export activities ensuring that customer’s goods are not delayed entering the UK or leaving the European Union.
Ensure that any non-conformity is proactively managed through to satisfactory resolution, seeking guidance when required.
Provide advice and guidance to customers on all customs activities including the correct documentation and procedures relevant to their needs.
Carry out follow-up calls to customers and agents as required regarding outstanding documents.
Receive and accurately process customer’s payments in accordance with company procedures.
Provide support and guidance to other team members, share personal knowledge and experience of all relevant activities including import/export law and procedures: tariffs and duties: and best practices.
Ensure that all Health & Safety Legislation is adhered to adopting policies and practices in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures.
Observe strict levels of confidentiality in relation to customer data adhering to company policies in respect of the Data Protection Act 1998 and GDPR.
Attend training sessions to develop relevant knowledge and skills as required.
Complete other duties required by the company from time to time.

WAGE
£7.00 per hour over a 38.5 hour week.
Assistance will be provided with your travel expenses until you receive your first salary.

HOURS
38.5 hours per week
Shifts between Monday- Friday with some Saturday Day hours
Earliest start 07:00 with latest finish 21:30
60-minute unpaid Lunch break

SKILLS REQUIRED
Good IT Skills including an understanding of Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
Good literacy and numeracy skills.
Have a passion and enthusiasm to get things done well and meet challenging goals, create own measures of excellence and constantly seek ways of improving performance and service delivery.
Aim to produce work that is accurate and free from errors.
Ability to handle cash transactions in various currencies accurately.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A-C GCSEs or Functional Skills Equivalent.

TRAINING PROVIDED
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
