Job Summary:

To assist officers and undertake work associated with food, health & safety, environmental protection. To gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours associated with regulatory compliance.

Main Activities:
  • Assist officers on regulatory enforcement visits, inspections, audits and service requests undertaking tasks as directed. To make records whilst on site and provide feedback to officers on key observations from visit
  • To update written and or computer records that are accurate, timely and in line with service and corporate procedures
  • Assist in the maintenance and calibration of equipment and recording of data.
  • Assist in the preparation of case files, reports, preparation of data analysis
  • Attend and participate in tutorials, meetings and other corporate training as required for the apprenticeships, personal development or service need. Record information and feedback as directed
  • Complete a mini project identified by line manager/tutor/mentor for the apprenticeship training on an aspect of work relevant to the development of the Mid Kent Environmental Health Service
  • Assist with any other duties commensurate with the post as directed
  • To follow corporate ICT procedures
  • To be aware of and exercise personal and corporate responsibilities under the Health and Safety at Work Act and other related matters


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Previous experience of using ICT software (Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Good communication skills (clear, polite, accurate and non-judgemental)
  • Treats people with respect
  • Good planning and organisational skills, able to meet deadlines

Desired qualifications

  • GCSEs including maths, English (Grade A - C or 4-9)
  • A level or equivalent in a Science subject (including Geography)

Future prospects

  • As a Council we have an excellent track record of training, having successfully trained students over many years who have gained permanent employment either with the council (through a competitive interview process) or in other public services or private companies
