About the role
If you are leaving school or college this year, this could be just the start you are looking for. We are recruiting for a Service Desk/HPC Computer Operations Apprentice position at the STFC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Didcot, Oxfordshire.
The apprenticeship will take two years to complete and you will gain essential computer IT related experience and skills throughout the two-year apprenticeship. You will work towards the Level 3 Infrastructure technician apprenticeship, which will develop and expand your technical competencies including; knowledge, skills and behaviours to work within an IT role.
Working as part of the Digital Infrastructure IT Support team, you will support and maintain desktop computers, hardware, software and portable devices, whilst providing support and assistant to staff and users throughout the site.
During the second year, training will be provided working as part of the HPC (High Performance Computing) team to support management of HPC Data Centre dealing with challenges in heating, cooling and power as well as application development.
You will have a minimum of 5 GSCEs at grade C/4 or equivalent, including Maths, English and Science.
You will also have experience of PC based computer systems and applications.
An interest in Computing is essential.
Some knowledge of Microsoft Desktop products and experience configuring Smartphones would beneficial.
