The Global Analytical Sciences Group within the Chemistry department in Slough provides industry leading analytical support to purify, characterise and profile the physical properties of Novel Chemical Entities (NCEs) using the most up to date instrumentation.

Responsibilities:

Following full training, the apprentice would provide core support in separation science to purify and characterise NCEs from the medicinal chemistry group. The apprentice would also cover routine physical chemistry measurements as and when required and would also be exposed to automation and robotic liquid handling.

The apprentice would take on a variety of tasks that would expose them to a range of laboratory techniques. Training will cover:
  • Foundation in analytical, physical and separation science
  • Good laboratory practice and record keeping
  • Preparation of buffers and solutions
  • Preparation of samples and screening plates
  • Experience with analytical and preparative liquid chromatography (LCMS)
  • Experience with analytical and preparative Super Fluid Critical (SFC) chromatography
  • Experience with robotic liquid handling

Desired qualifications

You must have gained 80 UCAS points from a minimum of 2 A Levels including Chemistry and an additional Science or Maths (or equivalent e.g. BTEC).

Future prospects

On completion of the Apprenticeship, candidates will be considered for progression on to the Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship
