With some pre-existing knowledge of HTML & CSS (and even better PHP!) you could be ideal for our new position with our team of ecommerce experts.So who is Gene? We're specialists in ecommerce using the widely adopted Magento platform.

Have you ever been interested in how your favourite online store functions? And feel like contributing to their and your own success? A role in ecommerce development would be ideal for you! As we work with a number of large brands, you'd be on the front line delivering their new exciting functionality whilst growing alongside them, you can practically taste the benefits!

The role will be a mixture of development with HTML, CSS, PHP using the Magento platform. Our certified development team will provide the best knowledge and practices to enrich your knowledge and experience with us. We have a flat organisation structure, your opinion counts, and we require your creative juices to always be flowing and disrupting the norm. It would be ideal for you to have previous encounters with web development involving the above-mentioned languages.

You'll also need a strong passion to learn, evolve and innovate. Being part of Gene we'd expect you to be a real team player whilst being able to strive working independently and always willing to learn and experience new technologies way out of your comfort zone. We thrive on the weird and wacky so come prepared with something exciting!

The role in detail includes:
  • Working with the Development team to plan, scope, develop and rollout large-scale e-commerce and web applications both bespoke and using the latest open-source technology, Magento
  • Developing and coding using the latest HTML, CSS, AJAX, PHP and MySQL
  • Working with an extensive UK retail client base
  • Working with designers, developers and marketing executives to ensure delivery of client projects ontime and budget and to the highest standard
  • Suggesting product development and the identification of new client solutions
  • And of course developing expert, robust and scalable HTML, CSS and PHP code

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

The preferred candidate would be able to demonstrate the following:
  • An understanding of how websites are constructed
  • A desire to work in the digital media industry
  • Some knowledge of HTML/CSS would be beneficial

Desired qualifications

  • At least 5 GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) includingEnglish and maths
  • A-Levels (or equivalent) aredesirable

Future prospects

Potential for ongoing employment for the right candidate (most of our apprentices work hard, achieve their apprenticeship qualification, develop sought after skills and are then employed on an ongoing basis after their apprenticeship).
