Working as part of a larger team, the post holder will have responsibility for some elements of an overall project and will need to interpret design documentation and specifications.

You will develop and maintain both web-based and desktop applications, with particular focus on developing effective interfaces for customers to interact with Council services.

Main duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
  • Discover, through a mix of research and practical exploration, opportunities to develop Council systems
  • Work with the Council's Digital Delivery team to ensure that all development outcomes meet the users' requirements and the Council's software standards
  • Analyse requirements and create basic supporting artefacts such as use-cases or user stories
  • Develop, document and maintain desktop applications, web-based applications, web services and reporting services
  • Write good quality code with sound syntax and logic that is relevant to the situation model (i.e. object oriented, event driven, procedural, etc.)
  • Work with colleagues to ensure that technology options are appropriately researched through proof-of-concepts and prototypes

  • Some previous experience of coding, ideally using C#, .net, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML and CSS
  • Understands the basic theory of the software development lifecycle
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to listen and interpret requirements and clearly convey ideas to a supportive audience

  • Analytical and problem-solving skills

Desired qualifications

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4or above (or equivalent) including maths and English Language
  • A Level 3 Software Development qualification (or equivalent/similar qualification)
