Support a busy small commercial team who are responsible for estimating and quantity surveying functions in the company. Working with the commercial manager and estimators to ensure that we provide accurate and competitive bids and assist the project management teams to deliver successfully won projects post contract.

Duties will include:
  • Analysing tender documents and assembling and issuing enquiries for materials and subcontract elements
  • Ensure quotations are received on time and reviewing quotations received to ensure compliance with tender requirements
  • Attending site with the project manager to undertake site surveys and measures
  • Attending meetings with the commercial manager and project manager, taking notes and preparing minutes of meetings
  • Preparing joinery and contracting estimates for adjudication and approval
  • Preparing interim valuations and applications for payment
  • Preparing subcontractor payment certificates and assisting with the settlement of final accounts

Desired skills

It is important that the candidate has:
  • Excellent numerical and grammatical skills
  • Attention to detail is a vital ingredient for the successful estimator and quantity surveyor
  • Good communication skills are necessary as well as an ability to successfully integrate into a small team
  • Excellent organisational skills with an ability to complete many tasks simultaneously to meet strict deadlines are also essential
  • Computer literacy is expected with a good working knowledge of MS Word and Excel


Personal qualities

A good work ethic coupled with enthusiasm and a willingness to learn will be rewarded with solid support in a busy friendly environment.

Desired qualifications

A level results enabling the candidate to take up a full-time degree course in Quantity Surveying.

A or B grade in maths, English and Sciences at GCSE (or equivalent).

Future prospects

The intention and aim is to ensure the candidate develops a successful long term career with Realm, obtains their degree and proceeds to obtain professional qualifications through RICS or CIOB. Eventually we would like the successful candidate to assist in the recruitment and training and career development of future recruits into the commercial department of the company.

Things to consider

This is an office-based role in Mansfield working in an open plan office occupied by up to twenty persons. Occasional visits to sites will be required however these would be accompanied. Additional training in relation to matters such as health and safety would be provided.
