This role is progressive and will develop as the apprentice moves through the course. As the apprentice gains more skills, knowledge and experience through their work and study, they will begin learning how to engineer their own projects with support from our well-seasoned engineers.

  • Liaising with the design team and clients
  • Estimating - preparing detailed estimates and producing information on the quantity and type of materials to be used
  • Key elements of the role include:
  • Production of CAD drawings
  • Preparation of calculations & specifications
  • Supporting the administration of projects
  • Ensuring outputs meet the required standards
  • Meeting agreed deadlines
  • Working as a member of a team
  • Contributing to providing solutions to problems
  • Working primarily in an office environment and also carrying out site inspection

Future prospects

If you became an apprentice engineer, you will become integral to a fast-growing practice with the possibility of eventually becoming a senior project engineer at the company.

This degree apprenticeship offers a direct, fully funded pathway to professional qualification, combining undergraduate education with on the job training and contribution to real-life projects. Apprentice engineers will graduate from this scheme with both the theoretical knowledge and practical industry experience necessary to become brilliant engineers.

The apprenticeship will run over a five-year period in which you will undertake a supervised programme of work-based training and university study on a day release program. You will study towards a Civil Engineering (BEng) undergraduate degree with qualification milestones every two years leading to a fully accredited degree at the end of the five years.

Upon successful completion of the degree and end-point assessment, you will meet the requirements needed to reach Incorporated Engineer status with the Institute of Civil Engineers.

Things to consider

Some travel around London may be required to attend site visits.

This is primarily an office-based role working at a desk using a computer for most of the day drawing up projects. There will also be site visits to your projects. Most site visits are pre-construction however, some live site visits will be required. Therefore, completion of a CSCS test is necessary if your application is successful.
