Future prospects
After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a developer role (this includes web and app development). You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team, and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science.
Things to consider
The Apprenticeship National Minimum Wage guide (ANMW): https://www.gov.uk/national-minimum-wage-rates
- There is no typical day. We do stand-ups daily but we don't follow a prescribed methodology for sprints etc. We use Java on the backend, Native for iOS and Android (Swift and Kotlin), JavaScript/React Redux on the front end for web work
- You will be placed in a team and could be working on any manner of things from our internal customer-facing portal, to credit, to fraud, to payment operations, to app development
- Everyone at Starling gets the chance to own interesting things from day one, and we're told one of the best things about working here is the ability to achieve a lot in a short space of time
Requirements and prospects
Desired skills
- All that we ask is that you are a skilled, caring, invested, passionate engineer!
- We want to hear from people who love building things, creating new stuff, learning new technologies and skills
Personal qualities
- You'll have made some headway learning to code (we have a variety of engineers here, whether from a formal background or relevant degree or those who have taken a different path or are self-taught) and have worked on some projects of your own that you're proud of
- We'll be interested to hear about things you've done, learned or built but the main thing is that you're motivated, driven to learn, analytical and have an interest in what we're doing and how you can be part of it!
Desired qualifications
- Five GCSE or equivalent atgrades C-A* (or 4-9), including maths and English
- Level 3 qualification (BTEC, NVQ or equivalent)
- 3 months prior coding knowledge
