The postholder will become a member of the Student Systems Support Centre, reporting to the Head of the Student Systems Support and working in conjunction with the Senior Functional Developer.

The key areas of activities shall be:
  • Learning basic SITS:Vision skills to deliver eVision developments using for example, simple vistas, Standard Reports and Letters (SRL) and tasking; as well as basic HTML and CSS, XML/XSL, and Oracle SQL scripts
  • Learning basic skills in Microsoft Dynamics, MS SQL Server and ASP.NET.
  • Working with other functional developers in the resolution of specific operational issues with eVision/SITS:Vision. This might include basic analysis of the problem, build (where appropriate) and testing necessary to implement a solution
  • Learning to use the University's call management system such that resolutions might be recorded and documented appropriately.Follow the support procedures defined by the Support Centre, including knowing when to escalate an incident to the appropriate third-line support team e.g. software vendor, operations, DBA team etc.
  • Under the guidance of other colleagues, develop appropriate supporting documentation for bug fixes, and potentially Quick Reference Guides for business users
  • Working with business analysts to acquire the business requirements for a development.Participate in user meetings to see how technical advice might be provided on the options to meet user requirements and how options might be presented for technical solutions using software demonstrations, walkthroughs and prototypes
  • Under the guidance of other developers, turning the requirements into a design, and once approved, assisting with the development and implementation of the solution
  • Participate in testing of software, usually peer-review testing but also occasional system testing and regression testing
  • Working with the Change and Release Manager to ensure that the development is transitioned into live service appropriately
  • To work with information in accordance with the principles of the General Data Protection Regulations

Desired skills

  • You should also possess good analytical and problem-solving skills as well as having a strong customer service focus
  • Demonstrate an interest in IT developments and applications
  • Evidence competence in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of programmes and a good knowledge of Windows applications
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for the skills taught in the apprenticeship (for example through work experience, qualifications or references)
  • Able to communicate clearly and accurately in writing, in person and on the telephone

  • Educated to A Level standard, or equivalent
  • Experience of HTML, CSS

Personal qualities

  • Reliable, methodical, and able to work flexibly
  • A willingness to work as part of a team with an approachable and helpful attitude
  • Able to work on own initiative with a proactive approach, but not afraid to seek advice as necessary
  • A strong customer service focus

Desired qualifications

Minimum of 5 GCSE's Grade C (4) or above or equivalents,which must include English Language and maths.

  • Experience of HTML, CSS
