Key accountabilities and responsibilities within the role:
  • Undertaking a number of laboratory tasks, operations and practices to support the performance of specific projects and tasks
  • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), maintaining accurate and up to date records
  • Assist with ensuring sample receipt and cataloguing is managed in an accurate and timely manner
  • Routine calibration of laboratory instruments - pH meters, dissolved oxygen (DO) meters and balances
  • Operation of laboratory equipment including calibrating equipment; preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, maintaining equipment inventories
  • Study work: preparing test vessels and matrices prior to study start; performing analysis during a study; dismantling and clearing up at study termination
  • To support a positive culture of safety to help the laboratory meet all health and safety requirements; including helping with laboratory stewardship to ensure the laboratory is kept clean and tidy and stocked with clean laboratory equipment
  • Contribute to the success of projects by delivering results on time, to the highest possible standard, proactively engaging with colleagues where appropriate
  • A flexible working style is imperative, and the job holder will be expected to work closely with their supervisor and other team members to deliver projects where priorities can change

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience of chemistry practical work e.g. titrations, standard preparation, GCSE or A-level practical work
  • Strong computer, scientific, and organisational skills

  • An ability to foster a sense of awareness about the tasks being performed and the willingness to proactively ask questions and ensure an optimum outcome for the work at hand
  • Is comfortable working independently and as part of a close knit and collaborative team

Desired qualifications

Relevant A-levels or BTEC Level 3 qualification in Science. In addition, GCSE's A*-C/9-4 or equivalent in English and maths.
