The Apprentice Project Manager will assist in the wide range of functions performed by the SPT, learning the processes of project management and engaging with the numerous stakeholders involved.

To obtain a project management qualification whilst working as part of the Grosvenor London Estate's Service Performance Team (SPT). The SPT are responsible for managing all maintenance provision across the London Estate. Time will be shared between:
  • The Major Works team - Responsible for the management of the delivery of Grosvenor's planned preventative maintenance (PPM) 10 year plan and undertaking ad-hoc minor development and refurbishment works
  • The Fabric and Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) team - Responsible for the management of day-to-day planned and reactive maintenance, cleaning and manned security
  • The Soft Services and Major M&E Projects Service Performance Manager - Responsible for the installation of major M&E equipment and other bespoke projects

To undertake the responsibilities set out below:
  • To learn and assist in the preparation of detailed specifications and contract documents for construction, refurbishment and planned maintenance works
  • To learn the techniques of assessing tender submissions and undertake basic tender analysis
  • To develop an understanding of how to prepare and manage project budgets, and to undertake the preparation of accounts for basic projects
  • To learn how to undertake visual surveys of properties to assess the requirements for works
  • To learn the benefits and requirements of implementing and managing a PPM schedule
  • To understand and work within health and safety requirements when running a project
  • To work with project managers to carry out ad hoc surveys and reports
  • To work with wider Grosvenor teams to ensure the successful delivery of maintenance activities
  • To learn when planning permission and/or listed building consent is required for works and to assist project managers in obtaining these local authority consents as required
  • To learn relevant statutory requirements for construction and facilities management works and to assist in applying these requirements to projects
  • To liaise with tenants, representatives, consultants and all stakeholders involved in or affected by project work
  • To assist in monitoring planned and reactive fabric and M&E repairs and to liaise with suppliers and tenants as required to ensure successful completion of the works
  • To learn how to undertake auditing of sites to assess completed works and identify any further maintenance requirements
  • To learn how to use Grosvenor's computer-aided facility management (CAFM) software and assist in the auditing of the stored information
  • To learn and support on major M&E projects including tasks such as conducting site visits, clerk of works reports, and reporting on project progress
  • To understand Grosvenor's existing ways of working and identify opportunities for sustainability improvements and other innovations
  • Other tasks will include specific research activities or initiatives, as directed by the Service Performance Managers or the Head of the Service Performance Team

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Experience of working and collaborating as part of a team
  • Experience of problem solving and applying logic
  • Good IT abilities with some experience of Excel

Personal qualities

  • A genuine interest in a career in project management within the property industry.
  • Able to demonstrate enthusiasm, tenacity and rigour

Desired qualifications

  • 5 G.C.S.E grades above C Grade/Level 4 (including Mathematics and English)

Future prospects

The successful candidate will receive project management training by skilled professionals, whilst working on one of the world's most prestigious estates. The wide range of functions performed by the SPT will provide insight and experience of a variety of project types. By necessity, productive working relationships will be formed with Grosvenor's Service Partners and previous apprentices have leveraged their experience, training and good results to secure positions within these businesses post-apprenticeship. The qualification offered in conjunction with the position, successfully completed, provides associate-level membership to the Association of Project Managers, an industry recognised body.

Things to consider

The role will involve: • A mix of office-based work with computer use, and travelling around the London Estate (Mayfair and Belgravia) to visit sites and perform tasks • Accessing plant rooms and similar • Accessing scaffolding and roofs
