Woodchurch Church of England Primary School is a one form entry rural village church school with approximately 165 pupils.


DESCRIPTION OF VACANCY
An ideal path to a career in education, don’t miss out on applying for this role as a Teaching Assistant at an excellent Primary School near Ashford, to support children’s learning and to share in the care and well-being of the children throughout the school.

This position is for 39 weeks of the year; 38 weeks during term time plus 5 additional days for training within school or assisting an after school club with a member of staff, as directed by the Line Manager.

Your main duties would include:

Working as part of a team as well as assisting the class teacher and leadership team to ensure quality education for all children
Promoting the development of numeracy, language and speech, including providing additional support to children with additional educational needs, by working alongside the class teacher and leadership team
Being aware of and supporting school policies and procedures
Working with individuals and small groups of children by planning and carrying out relevant activities that accelerate and raise the level of achievement for all pupils involved in all areas of the curriculum, under the guidance of the class teacher
Reporting any concerns regarding children’s welfare or education, to the class teacher or leadership team
Being aware of suspected or actual cases of child abuse, referring such matters to the appropriate designated person for further action
Assisting with maintaining good behaviour throughout the school at all times, following school procedures
When directed, escort and supervise pupils on planned visits/journeys along with other staff, within agreed working hours
Assisting with the preparation of resources
Showing a commitment to school life and to assist in running an extra-curricular club within agreed working hours
Attending appropriate training days/events as requested within agreed working hours Supporting children’s learning and to share in the care and wellbeing of the children throughout the school
Supporting the emotional, behavioural and pastoral needs of all pupils, including children with SEN
Supporting individual and small groups of children in the curriculum to accelerate their learning
Carrying out specific administrative/ procedural tasks to support a class teacher
Being involved in the planning, development and delivery of intervention strategies Observing and monitoring pupils progress and adapt agreed approaches to their particular needs
Providing support and assistance for children’s pastoral needs
Promoting the school’s values, ethos and culture
Encouraging pupils to develop a positive self-image, and to develop confidence in their abilities and communication with others


WAGE
£3.90 per hour


HOURS
Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 3:15pm each day (term time only). This includes a 15 minute morning break and 30 minute lunch break each day which is unpaid.
Total hours per week: 30.00


SKILLS REQUIRED
Must be able to use own initiative, work independently, motivate and inspire with a creative approach to problem solving
Must have the ability to work calmly under pressure and have the ability to adapt quickly and effectively to changing circumstances/situations
To work with groups of children both in and out of class and sometimes whole classes, under the direction and guidance of the leadership team and class teachers
To be able to monitor the progress of pupils and keep accurate records, in order to ensure documentation of all interventions
Supervise playtimes, under the jurisdiction of the teacher on duty who will be in overall charge (alternative break provided)
To be able prepare teaching and display materials
Good standard of general education together with excellent Mathematics and English verbal communication skills
Use IT competently

Have the ability to relate well to children and adults, understanding their needs and being able to respond accordingly
Ability to encourage pupils to interact with others and be socially responsible
You should be resilient, compassionate and supportive Have patience and understanding
An interest in music, art or sport


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
A* – C GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent


TRAINING PROVIDED
On the job training with the employer whilst working towards the Apprenticeship Framework – consisting of the Intermediate NVQ Level, Technical Certificate and Functional Skills if appropriate.

Regular work based assessments/observations carried out by Kent Training & Apprenticeships Tutor Assessor, to determine competency and meet with Awarding Body standards.
