You will work with our experienced and skilled team and assist in providing a high standard of support to promote the efficient functioning of our fast paced Revenues and Benefits Team.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Maintaining Council Tax and Benefits records in accordance with legislation and legal requirements
  • Dealing with customers appropriately to gather and verify information and provide explanations of often complex matters
  • Advising customers to maximise their income and ensure they are receiving the correct benefits
  • Have an awareness of the customer's circumstances and signpost them to other services or council departments as appropriate
  • Establish liability for Council Tax and/or Business Rates

Additional Requirements:
  • To complete on and off the job training in line with your apprenticeship standard
  • To complete all coursework by target dates and attend training activities as required
  • To complete Functional Skills in numeracy, literacy and IT where an exemption has not been made
  • To work with an assessor/mentor to develop a work based portfolio
  • To undertake statutory & mandatory training as required
  • To utilise knowledge and skills gained at college/training into practice within the workplace

  • Demonstrate the ability to develop a sound knowledge of Local Authority Council Tax and Benefits systems and procedures

  • Experience of working under pressure, demonstrating a mature and flexible approach to service objectives

Skills and Abilities:
  • Have a very good standard of oral and written communication skills and the ability to articulate complex issues in a customer friendly way
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to positively contribute to the development of the service
  • Strong IT skills, particularly in relation to Office packages, including word processing and spread sheets, possessing the ability to input information in a quick and accurate manner
  • Have the ability to deal with people from a cross section of the community in a positive but sympathetic manner
  • Have the ability and confidence to take ownership for decision making
  • Have the ability to work well within a pressurised environment and possess a flexible approach to working

Desired qualifications

Must have grade 9/A*- 3/DGCSEor equivalent in mathematics, English and ICT.
