Operations (L4 PM Route)
Operations is the largest functional area and at the forefront of the Submarines business. Teams working in Operations build the submarines and directly support manufacture and construction activity.
What does the apprenticeship include?
The environment is "front line", presenting everyday challenges and problem solving in a busy and dynamic setting. Submarines are complex products and Operations is responsible for translating engineering design into a built Boat. The Operations team is very diverse, multi-skilled and takes pride in delivering submarines of exacting quality to the Royal Navy.
The scheme is designed to provide a broad knowledge of the Operations area, where the Submarines are actually built, through three to twelve month placements, over a three year period.
The scheme will enable Higher Apprentices to gain a broad understanding of manufacturing and construction, working in both production and office environments. Placements will provide Higher Apprentices opportunity to understand and contribute to manufacturing processes which underpin the Submarine build.
Higher Apprentices will work across delivery, quality and safety related activity, understanding key component requirements which support the build programme for both Astute and Successor submarine work, as well as the integration with, and contribution from other business areas, including project management, planning, quality, safety and supply chain.
There will also be opportunity to be involved with continuous improvement activity and manufacturing engineering.
