On our Nuclear Higher Apprentice Scheme for Submarines, you’ll support the team contracted to work on some of the biggest and most ambitious engineering projects in the world.

What does the apprenticeship include?
The Nuclear Higher Apprenticeship Scheme recruits and develops A - Level qualified (or equivalent) individuals to become the next generation of nuclear engineers. Nuclear Higher Apprentices will develop an understanding of and the ability to work to the relevant nuclear regulations and nuclear site licence conditions which support the safe design, build and commissioning of BAE Systems world class submarines.
The Nuclear Higher Apprenticeship runs for five years, with the first three years being an opportunity to undertake varied and interesting placements in exciting nuclear areas such as Reactor Operations Nuclear Integration, Test & Commissioning and Nuclear Safety and Regulation. In the final two years the HA will be working full time in one these relevant nuclear placements as a nuclear engineer.
In the first three years all Nuclear Higher Apprentices follow a set placement schedule and complete a bespoke Nuclear Competency Workbook, which allows them to track the knowledge and experience they are acquiring. This provides crucial preparation for the transition into exit roles during which Higher Apprentices are placed specifically into their final two years gaining relevant experience and developing specifically for that role. The exact area will be determined by the business requirements at the time.

What is the salary?
Competitive starting salary, currently £17,500, rising between £0 - £2400 every 12 months based upon your development.
What qualifications will I get?
As a Nuclear Higher Apprenticeship you will not only be continually develop you within the business, you will also undertake part-time academic study which is fully funded by the company.  During the five years of study, they will work towards a Level 6 Nuclear Scientist & Nuclear Engineer Standard. 
What are the entry requirments?

To apply for the Nuclear Higher Apprenticeship you’ll require five GCSEs grade A*-C/ 4-9 (or equivalent) including Maths, English and Science/technical subject AND 240/96 UCAS points or equivalent (excluding UCAS points gained at AS level) to include Maths plus one other STEM subject (excluding General Studies)
All applicants will be expected to be medically fit as deemed necessary to perform the role, be eligible to work in the UK and be able to successfully achieve security clearance.
