This is an exciting opportunity to join a busy Service managing flood and erosion risk along our extensive and varied coastline.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, energetic and motivated apprentice to join the ESCP. This is a unique and interesting apprenticeship within the Operations Team focused on civil engineering, inspections and surveying along our coastline. The chosen candidate will become an integral part of our team and will assist officers with a variety of field based and office-based tasks.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, good time management as well as showing attention to detail. You will enjoy working outdoors in all weathers, be environmentally aware and have confidence in your ability to find solutions to problems.

In house training will be provided for surveying and other specialised work packages, this is desirable but not a required skill.

  • Willing to work outside normal working hours when undertaking surveys and tidal works
  • Able to work as a team member, able to demonstrate good communication skills


Desired qualifications

Essential:
  • A-C GCSE maths, English and Science (or equivalent)
  • Clean UK Full Drivers Licence or working towards
  • Desirable:
  • GCSE / AS or A Level Geography (or equivalent)
  • GCSE / AS or A Level in Environmental Science (or equivalent)
  • ICT Qualification
  • RYA SRC Marine radio (or equivalent)


Future prospects

  • Following the completion of this Apprenticeship the candidate will have obtained the qualification from the Univeristy and be in a strong position to pursue a career as a Civil Engineering Technician/Surveyor (or similar) within the civil engineering industry
  • The opportunity for further study may also become available with the broad range of experience gained during the placement fulfilling chosen course criteria


Things to consider

  • This vacancy will involve working outdoors and involve unsociable hours. As early as 0400 start time and as late as 1900 finish. An early start would mean an earlier finish based on a 7.5 hour day. This vacancy may involve long hours working at computers.
