The work:

You'll enjoy agency life - the camaraderie, the opportunity to try new technology, and the variety of customers and projects. This is a role for an individual that wants to be able to make a big contribution to a small business, and be rewarded for success.

In addition to client project work, this role will come with the opportunity to create and develop agency products, so you'll need to be creative and insightful.

Your duties will include:
  • Work with the development team on existing and new projects, using HTML, CSS and JavaScriptto create and improve client websites and applications
  • Attend and input into development team meetings
  • Assist the support team with assigning support tickets and keeping clients informed of progress, completing tickets as skills improve
  • Assist the QA team with automated and manual testing of websites and applications
  • Content administration - Use CMS interface to create and update content on client sites
  • Site Administration - Use CMS interface to create and administer different types of content, lists of content, tags, users, displays and templates

You're the type of person who can admit there's always more to learn, and more to improve. You're a thoughtful individual who cares about their teammates and knows when to be supportive. And although you're still learning, you're committed to doing things right from the start.

As an apprentice back-end developer we won't expect you to build Rome in a day, but we'll be keeping you busy to build up your abilities. You'll be working closely with other members of a cross-functional team, including designers and other back-end developers who will mentor and guide you.

Some knowledge ofPHP, Drupal or WordPress would be a bonus. There's so much more to learn but knowledge or some experience ofthese would help your application:
  • HTML5, CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Node.js or have you tried Go yet?
  • CMS (Drupal/WordPress/Shopify/Squarespace)
  • Git, GitHub, GitLab, Git anything really
  • Linux / Unix or any time spent in a terminal

Personal qualities

We want someone who has the confidence to say, "I can do that" and we'll be there to support you. Ideally have some commercial experience but we'll understand if you're just starting out.

Someone with an enthusiastic and professional attitude and a commitment to learning new skills. You will need to be punctual, reliable, honest and have a strong work ethic. You must be able to work as part of a team and contribute to team meetings, but also able to work on your own to targets and deadlines.

Desired qualifications

Ideally 5 9-4/A*-C GCSEs (or equivalents) including maths, English and ICT.

Future prospects

If you do well in this apprenticeship you may be offered a permanent position. Eighteen months experience and training should give you the level of skills required to seek a position as a Web Developer.

First interviews may be online/phone and successful candidates will be given some online learning resources to work through before attending the second interview.
