Based in the heart of the City of London, the UK Finance Press & Campaigns team acts as a public voice for the UK's banking and finance sector, helping to promote the industry to media, consumers, government and external stakeholders while providing a high quality service for our members' press teams. It's an exciting time to join. The banking and finance industry areconstantly evolving and UK Finance is at the heart of helping the sector deliver key regulation and policy and shape the sector's future.

UK Finance's press office is a fast paced, dynamic environment, with significant media interaction offering you the opportunity to interact with leading national, personal finance and trade media, responding to their queries.

The External Affairs function is a cross-cutting team providing support to policy, operations, data and marketing teams across UK Finance.

Key duties and responsibilities include the following:
  • Writing business communications, writing for the media (i.e. reactive lines, articles, news and data releases, speeches, blogs, press briefings), writing the daily News in Brief (read by UK Finance members, senior individuals in the banking and finance industry, government, regulators, media and members of the public), writing thedaily industry news digest, and communicating effectively with internal team clients, helping to maintain UK Finance's long-term strategic 'forward-look' grid to ensure it is up-to-date and the Press Team is prepared for reactive responses,
  • Monitoring news/breaking stories, developments online, social media and finance sector announcements, andhelping ensure press team colleagues areprepared for reactive responses
  • Media liaison - Understanding how the media operates, dealing with day-to-day enquiries from the media, pitching stories and/or products to the media, building relationships with the media (i.e. journalists), creating media lists, co-ordinating broadcast and interview media bids
  • Delivering PR campaigns - Supporting the team in creating new campaigns, working to deliver and implement strategy
  • Evaluating PR campaigns - Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of PR campaigns and measuring their impact
  • Presenting - Planning, structuring and delivering presentations internally and externally
  • Research & data analysis - Conducting research for the team and/or clients and reporting key details
  • Events - Planning, organising and co-coordinating events, meeting the objectives of the brief
  • Budgets and subscriptions - working with the Press Office Manager to be responsible for small finance processes related to subscriptions and PR campaigns

Workload management
  • Time management - Planning, organising and prioritising your workload to ensure deadlines and objectives for both work activities and apprenticeship training are met
  • Diary management - Ensuring email/online diaries are kept up to date
  • Meetings - Working with the Press Team Executive Assistant to arrange internal and external meetings, ensuring rooms are suitable and attendees needs are catered for
  • Career development - Taking responsibility for personal learning and professional development

  • Professional relationships - Developing professional relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, effective listening and verbal/written communication
  • Communicating with supervisors/mentors - Ensuring they are aware of work in progress and are briefed when any problems arise

  • A passionate and enthusiastic communicator, with excellent command of written and spoken English

Desired qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 A Levels or equivalent is desirable
  • GCSE: 9 to 4 (formerly A* to C) in English Language or equivalent
  • GCSE: 9 to 4 (formerly A* to C) in maths or equivalent
