Estimators become involved in a project in its early stages, usually in competition with other companies and decide if they would like to submit a tender to try and win the contract to build the project. They are often the difference between a company winning and losing a project.

You will be educated to A Level, or the equivalent, with minimum grades in GCSE mathematics and English of A*-C/9-4. Ideally you will also have a high level of computer literacy.
Future prospects
There will be opportunity for professional development and career progression. Candidates will need to be self- motivated and with professional guidance eventually gain chartership of a professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Building.
Duties include:
- Researching materials, equipment and labour costs
- Gathering quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers
- Assessing the levels of risk on a project
- Preparing and submitting quotations for work
- Helping with bids for new contracts and supporting buying activities
