This apprenticeship will provide an opportunity to obtain work experience and gain a variety of skills, providing support to people with a learning disability and/or Autism and adults with mental health needs. During the year the apprentice must acquire the relevant qualification.

Performance:

* Working with adults with a learning disability and/or Autism and adults with mental health needs living in our registered care service, day opportunities or respite service including accessing the local community under the guidance of the designated supervisor

* Providing direct support, following individual Support Plans and Risk Assessments; to assist with support such as but not limited to personal care, manual handling, social and leisure activities, volunteering and/or work, attending health care appointments

* Undertake practical skills such as laundry, cooking, cleaning, shopping, meal planning and preparation etc

* Attend and participate in meetings as and when required

* Contribute to the creation of and updating service users' records including Assessment of Need, Support Plans, Risk Assessments, Health Care plans and daily notes, under the supervision of a designated supervisor; both written and electronic versions, as appropriate

Challenging Barriers:

* Work as part of a team, share your ideas and explore new ways of working under the guidance of the designated supervisor

* Understand the issues that effect people with a learning disability and/or Autism and adults with mental health needs

* Providing support to people with a learning disability and/or Autism and adults with mental health needs, in building new friendships and relationships, strengthen existing friendships and relationships, and maintain links with families

Pioneering:

* Contributing to and writing reports, using IT software such as Word, Excel, Multimedia

* To undertake an agreed qualification; complete your own portfolio of evidence of competencies and learning, as required

* To complete 20% off the job learning as part of the apprenticeship requirement; this includes shadowing, internal training, visiting other services and relevant external events/exhibitions

* To attend any in-service training and complete eLearning as part of your own agreed learning and development
