What will the apprentice be doing?

-Providing first line technical support to our scientific users
-Efficiently triaging or advancing requests
-Incrementally take on software development tasks

This role will provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain experience working in a diverse multidisciplinary research team. In addition, you will interact with scientific researchers at all levels, gaining valuable experience in cross-domain communication.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

This is a developmental role to encourage new talent in the area of software development. You will emerge as a fully competent software developer, skilled in modern agile software development practices. In addition, you will have a comprehensive understanding of our working practises here within our research division at the Wellcome Sanger Institute.

You will graduate with the BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions Degree from Anglia Ruskin University

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

The expected career progression of the successful apprentice at the end of the apprenticeship is to become a software developer. The practical on the job experience combined with your knowledge from your degree will help you on your way to become a software developer.

Things to consider

A strong interest in Software development is essential. Some experience of programming is ideal. This can be at school, at home or through an organisation.
