Apprenticeship summary
Annual wage: GBP15,000
Working week: Working days are Monday to Friday and working every 4th Saturday. Hours will vary but typically you will start between 4am - 5.30am and an average of 45 hours per week.
Total hours per week: 45.00 (the hours are based on the candidate being over 18)
Expected duration: 13 months

The role of a Class 2 Driver involves delivering frozen, ambient and chilled products to our customers. It's hard work but very rewarding!

Our Driver Apprentices will be supported and mentored to undertake the following:

• Ensure customer orders are delivered professionally whilst maintaining an effective working relationship with customers and colleagues
• Ensure invoices are signed for with accurate adjustments
• Responsibility for ensuring cash is collected for cash on delivery customers and that the amounts are correct
• Maintain and monitor control of product temperatures on the vehicle
• Carry out vehicle checks to ensure the vehicle is safe and compliant
• Compliance with Health & Safety and Hygiene legislation
• Compliance with Current Vehicle and Tachograph legislation
• Maintain good communication with the Distribution Dept
Average drops in a day can be from 10 to 18 dependant on delivery locations.
Driver is responsible for back to depot duties, i.e. re-fuelling, unloading cages and debrief.

• Full and clean car driving licence (due to the nature of the role).
Future prospects
Once you have passed your category C driving test, your salary will increase significantly (This should be around months 4-6).
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship you will be offered a permanent role and your salary will increase again to between GBP27,000 - GBP31,000 depending on performance.
Further opportunities are identified within our IPR meetings. These vary but there is potential to progress within Brakes.
Things to consider
Occasional bank holiday to be worked.
