Trainee Engineer Programme 2018
Salary - circa £18,000 with yearly increase plus excellent company benefits
Are you thinking about University but you're worried about tuition fees and student loans? There is another way. Our Trainee Engineer Programme lasts for three years and combines academic study with work based experience. Working within our Energy Networks or Renewable Operations business, you'll have a unique opportunity to study towards a minimum HNC level qualification with our academic provider, fully funded by us.
All of our Trainee Engineers do spend some time staying away from home at our academic provider. This is usually for 2-3 weeks blocks once per term. When not studying, you’ll spend the balance of your time on placements which may include working in the field, at Power Stations and Control Rooms, working alongside experienced SSE crafts people and engineers.
By the time you reach the third year of the programme you'll be given increased responsibility in managing small jobs, including technical aspects, safety management and the supervision of crafts people or contractors. On the run up to your successful completion of the Trainee Engineer programme your programme coordinator and your manager will work with you to look at your future opportunities at SSE.
This Programme requires you to be highly organised and self-driven with the ability to manage your time well. You should be flexible in your approach to work to maximise your chances of success, and you should be happy working alone or as part of a team. You'll be comfortable to spend some time living away from home whilst attending study through our academic provider or whilst on placements across SSE.
You should have, or be on target to achieve, Maths and Science (preferably Physics) qualifications at A2 Level (A-C) or SQA Higher level (A-B), as well as English at GCSE (4 - 9) or National 5 (Scotland). We are happy to accept applications from candidates with a HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
Closing date for applications is Sunday 18th March 2018.
Successful candidates will start in August 2018 and will be subject to our verification and vetting process which includes a qualification and basic criminal record check along with drug and alcohol testing.
