LEAD Apprenticeship Programme
Hanson produces aggregates (crushed rock, sand and gravel), ready-mixed concrete, asphalt, cement and cement-related materials from over 300 UK production sites. We are part of the HeidelbergCement Group and employ over 3,600 people.
Working sustainably and providing top level customer service are at the heart of our business. We believe that creating a safe and healthy workplace for our employees, caring for the environment and delivering high quality products will help us to prosper and grow.
Hanson Cement Padeswood is a large cement works based in North Wales which produces in excess of 500,000t of cement. This cement is sold into the construction market whereby it is used in large projects across the North West. The site employees roughly 100 people which are split between the four departments of Quality, Engineering, Production & Quarrying.
Our Leadership, Education and Development (LEAD) higher apprenticeship programme is designed to attract and train future supervisors and managers. We are looking for enthusiastic post A Level candidates who are keen to learn and develop supervisory skills in a hands-on environment.
You will have the chance to ‘earn while you learn’, completing a foundation degree in mineral extractives and also the opportunity to complete a full honours degree. We can offer you clear career pathways, with access to multiple opportunities across our business.
The first 3 years are spent gaining experience and relevant qualifications in operational aspects of our business. This runs alongside distance learning delivered by The University of Derby. You will develop skills in the real life workplace environment of a quarry, asphalt plant or cement works, alongside a team of motivated people who will support you to gain experience in activities from drilling and blasting and driving mobile plant to operating a cement kiln. From year four onwards you could progress to a supervisory role whilst studying towards an honours degree.
All study is fully funded by Hanson and you will be paid a competitive salary with a comprehensive benefits package, supported by a mentor as well as your line manager. You will be allowed time for your study within normal work hours, but you must also be prepared to study in your own time.
You will need to have 5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths, english and science, as well as two A levels and a full UK driving licence (or at least have this in place by August). More importantly you must be willing and able to relocate at any stage during the programme to benefit from the opportunities on offer.
If you are ambitious, team-orientated, flexible and serious about starting a career in our industry, we cannot wait to hear from you. Please contact our recruitment team with any queries.
