Working as a Data Scientist Apprentice, you will receive on the job training from our inhouse experts, combined with in personand online lectures at university. You will work towards a post graduate degree (apprenticeship level 7) funded by LTI.

You will be assigned a buddy, and mentors throughout the programme who will offer support and guidance to help you succeed in the short term.

Roles and responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Thought Leadership mindset:
  • Serve as a thought leader & decision maker on technical, design & related issues
  • Should be able to solve challenges, pickup new languages, framework or technologies on the go
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Ownership & Accountability:
  • Take ownership of your product/features - keep a look out for bugs that might arise, ardently resolve them.
  • Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision
  • Continuously keep assessing usability & relevance of product features
  • Come up with suggestions for improvements

Engineering Skills:
  • Participate in product aligned research by tweaking/rewriting libraries
  • Work with problems of scale, employ technologies that are distributed in nature.
  • Ability to design for performance, scalability, and availability
  • Experience in building web applications and full product life-cycles

Desired skills

  • Must have experience in statistical programming in R, Python using libraries like sci-kit, tensorflow, pytorch, spacy
  • Experience in deep learning frameworks
  • Enthusiast to build enterprise grade product to be used by Data scientist.
  • Knowledge on Model interpretability
  • Experience in Text Analytics
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment for automating processes with shell scripting
  • Analyse raw data: assessing quality, cleansing, structuring for downstream processing
  • Experience in Docker and Kubernetes will be an added advantage
  • Collaborate with engineering team to bring analytical prototypes to production
  • Lead development and implementation of scalable algorithmic solutions for real-time operations and information flow systems
  • Help establish standards in machine learning and statistical analysis to ensure consistency in quality across projects and teams and identify relevant process efficiencies
  • Advanced level proficiency with statistical, machine learning modelling techniques such as regression, decision trees, neural networks, support vector machines, supervised/unsupervised clustering techniques, experimental test design, etc.
  • Knowledge of machine learning modelling techniques and advanced applied skills in developing predictive targeting models within distributed computing platforms such as Hadoop, AWS, Azure, GCP using one or more tools like Spark, Scala, SAS, R, Python, Bayesian, H2O, Storm, Yarn, Kafka
  • Advance analytical skill combined with business discipline
  • Ability to perform insightful and actionable quantitative and qualitative analysis of the business
  • SQL: Data Warehouse, Teradata SQL
  • Big Data: Azure Storage, experience in any one flavor -Cloudera/Hortonwork/MapR

Desired qualifications

An honours degree (2:2 or above) in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subject.

Equivalent professional qualifications and/or relevant work experience may also be considered. In this case the applicant will have to complete an interview with the application.

Plus GCSE qualifications (Level 2) in English and maths (A*-C or 9-4). Before taking their end-point assessment, allapprentices on apprenticeships at level 3 and above must achieve Level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C or 4 -9).The apprentice can take these qualifications at the university while on the apprenticeship.

Future prospects

The possibility of a full-time post upon completing the apprenticeship.
