Summary of Main Responsibilities and Activities:
  • Day-to-day support for the Registered Manager and another Deputy Manager in the Running of the Home
  • To assist the manager in leading and managing the day-to-day running of the home and to act as person in charge in the absence of the registered manager
  • To assist in creating a homely, domestic and family environment
  • To be responsible for the organisation and implementation of general Home duties, directly participating and obtaining the full participation of all staff in the provision of high standards in the Home
  • To support the manager to investigate any concerns or complaints, take appropriate action and report to the Care Quality Commission and registered providers where appropriate
  • To liaise with and co-operate with Care Quality Commission inspectors and inspections
  • Maintain a high standard of professional conduct, encouraging and motivating other members of staff by personal example, thereby promoting good staff morale
  • To initiate and develop new ideas and methods regarding the quality of service and involve residents and other staff as much as possible
  • To be able to work weekends, bank holidays and be on call as required

Service User Care:
  • To ensure that there is a focus on fun, good health and enjoyment, providing people with a person-centred experience and to develop their lives in creative and imaginative ways
  • To ensure that all service users have a Support Plan in order to meet service user need
  • To be responsible for implementing, sustaining, monitoring and regularly evaluating the agreed goals, ensuring that the service users, their families and friends / advocates are fully involved in this process
  • To assist in medication audits, ordering, reviewing and returning
  • To participate in service users' reviews wherever possible and to ensure that Service User Plans are evaluated regularly
  • To support service users within reviews and service users' meetings in order to help them to express their views so that their needs are met
  • To ensure that service users are supported in maintaining healthy lifestyles and that primary care needs are met, e.g. GP, Dentist, Chiropodist
  • To ensure that regular appointments are made where necessary and to report / record the outcome of all visits
  • To ensure that the emotional, spiritual, physical, medical and material needs of the service users are recognised, assessed and met
  • To encourage Service Users to exercise individual choice and control over all aspects of their lives
  • To develop and maintain links and good relations with other professionals and external agencies in particular with Further Education Departments, Social Education Centres and leisure facilities in accordance with aims stated within Service User Plans
  • To assist in maintaining a secure / safe environment for the well-being of the service users and those who work within the home
  • To comply with the requirements of employees under the Health and Safety at Work Act

Finance:
  • To be responsible for the effective management and safe keeping of service user and Care resources including property and equipment and petty cash, ensuring that all necessary records, invoices and receipts are kept in line with accountability within the financial policy
  • To be responsible for the effective management of staff budgets by careful organisation of duties and shifts
  • Also exercise effective and economic management of all other non-staff budgets, i.e. equipment, maintenance, use of telephone and energy saving
  • To authorise all time sheets, training hours, holidays and absences are reported
  • To observe strict confidentiality in respect of any information regarding service users within the home and to ensure that any inappropriate hearsay is challenged
  • To ensure that all service users are assessed prior to admission in order that the service can meet their needs and that they are compatible
  • To delegate the above responsibilities to a competent person as and when appropriate and necessary
  • To adhere to legislation and codes of practice at all times and ensure that relevant applications are made to support Service User needs/ care (DoLS, Mental Capacity Assessments)

Staff Team:
  • To lead team members and to endeavour to develop open, trusting and supportive relationships
  • To ensure that there is good communication with and between staff and organise meetings involving the service users as much as possible
  • To be responsible for co-ordination, supervision and monitoring of all staff's work and care practices within the home
  • To investigate where necessary any reports of poor conduct in line with company policy
  • To ensure staff are following all procedures for reporting and recording information.
  • To be responsible for day-to-day staffing resources of the home and ensuring a rota is planned in advance
  • To be responsible for the interviewing and appointing staff where appropriate
  • To ensure that the effective induction, supervision and assessment of staff is carried out and that training needs are identified and met
  • To be responsible for allocating the correct level of leave to staff within the home to meet service requirements

  • To promote a positive image of the support offered within the home to relatives and agencies, or professionals you may meet in your role
  • To assist in maintaining a clean, homely environment, whilst considering the capabilities of the service users and the issues of choice and dignity
  • To ensure that all buildings and grounds reflect a "quality image"
