Data Analysis is the art of collecting and analysing data so that a company or companies can use said data to perfect their marketing and business practices.

The data analyst is a highly trained professional who performs the analysis, running various mathematical calculations to determine how the data samples might best be applied to profit the business.

Duties would include:
  • Collecting and analysing data
  • Perform database queries across multiple tables to extract data for analysis
  • Assist with data quality checking and cleansing
  • Use the tools and techniques for data analysis, data visualisation and presentation
  • Use a range of analytical techniques such as data mining, time series forecasting and modelling techniques to identify and predict trends and patterns in data
  • Assist with the production of a range of ad-hoc and standard data analysis reports
  • Summarise, prepare and the results of data analysis to a range of stakeholders making recommendations
  • Undertake such other duties as reasonably requested by management from time to time


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Demonstrates logical thinking and has a proactive approach to problem solving
  • Proven experience of using analytic techniques to understand patterns in data to determine cause and effect
  • Strong MS Excel skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of attention to detail


Personal qualities

  • Ability to prioritise efforts in a rapidly changing and dynamic environment
  • Ability to work under pressure to achieve timely deliverables whilst maintaining quality
  • A customer centric attitude to analysis techniques


Desired qualifications

  • GCSE's (or equivalent) atA - C (8-4) grades (including maths & English)
  • Previous qualifications, A-Level or BTEC standard in the following; ICT, Business Studies, Computing or maths


Future prospects

  • Move straight into the destination of their choice when they finish their apprenticeship with many seeing their salary go up immediately post-apprenticeship
