Degree Apprenticeship Development Scheme
39 month duration

Think there’s only one way to get a degree? Think again.

At the Bank of England, whilst we have a rich history, we’re certainly not stuck in the past. We’re not all about numbers and money either. We don’t hold accounts or issue loans to the public. Instead, we oversee the entire financial system and keep it going.

If you’re finishing school this year, university is far from your only option. Our Degree Apprenticeships are ideal if you’re keen to start your career.

Our 39-month programme is designed to help talented people earn a full-time salary and study towards a fully funded degree at the same time.

You’ll start with a formal introduction to the various areas of the business. You will get to know all about the vast and varied work we do every day. You’ll also enrol on a part-time undergraduate Degree Apprenticeship with a reputable university. There, you’ll learn the theoretical knowledge to complement your on-the-job learning.

There are three pathways to choose from:

Digital and Technology Solutions, which is responsible for the tech that tracks bank notes in circulation and records gold in vaults. You’ll be right at the cutting-edge of developments, working alongside experts in the field. With this option, you’ll study for a degree at the University of Exeter.

Data Science, in association with the University of Kent, where you’ll study modules including statistics and data analysis, computer science, mathematical foundations, artificial intelligence, communication and visualisation.

Economics, in association with the University of Kent’s School of Economics. This apprenticeship offers an applied, data-based practical approach to the teaching and learning of analytical economics. The programme includes on- and off-site academic learning and annual residential weeks at the University of Kent Canterbury campus.

We understand that working and studying can be a challenge. You will get study leave, support from your line manager and a dedicated team of support to help you along the way.

We’ll value your perspectives and support you from day one. It’s a really collaborative and innovative environment, so you’ll need to be a great team player with plenty of ideas. And, importantly, we’re after people who are keen to learn and up for a challenge. Are you?

The Bank of England has been at the heart of the UK’s economy for over 300 years - working to maintain monetary and financial stability for the good of the people. Our work ranges from setting interest rates and issuing banknotes to regulating the financial sector and devising economic policy. The decisions that we make touch the lives of every single person in the country, and they have for generations. If you want to see the impact we make, just look around you.

All of this means that we can offer careers, and an experience, like no other. You’ll play an important part in complex and high profile work that means a lot to the Bank and the world outside our walls. You’ll work with, and learn from, colleagues who are true experts in their field. And, as we continue to evolve to meet today’s economic challenges, you’ll find more and more opportunities to explore new areas in different parts of the Bank. Find something that fascinates you, and we’ll encourage and support you to go in that direction.
