The Operations/Departmental Manager Apprenticeship is a great opportunity for an individual looking to progress their career in management. You will ideally have been leading a team within a customer service focused role, supporting day to day operations within your organisation. As a L5 apprentice, you will be looking to progress into a higher management role managing a teams and/or projects, to achieve operational or departmental goals and objectives, as part of the delivery of the organisations strategy.

Green Machine are looking for the right candidate to grow into the role of Operations Manager to support their expanding business. The Operational Manager will oversee Service Excellence within the business, ensuring quality of service and compliance. At a strategic level the Operations Manager will have oversight of the companies cleaning operations and will act to create and deliver operational plans, including setting KPI's and monitoring performance against plans. The Operations Manager will also manage day to day planning, including support cover for staff absence, completing site checks to ensure quality standards are maintained, alongside the completion on inspections on the condition of material and equipment.

The Operations Manager will be: -
  • Expected to communicate with clients on service issues in a professional and courteous manner, and implement solutions/changes to improve service and standards if required

Candidates applying to this position will have a demonstrable background in quality assurance and service level agreements.
  • Responsible for maintaining and growing the company's business, demonstrating commercial awareness identifying and shaping new opportunities, alongside the establishment of trust with our existing clients, ensuring no client is lost or becomes dissatisfied, due to unacceptable standards of dress or performance within the company's workforce
  • Expected to manage projects, budgets and resources, demonstrating how savings can be made and providing recommendations to leadership
  • Have a good understanding of Health and Safety procedures and compliance across operations. Ensuring the correct chemicals, protective clothing or equipment (i.e. gloves, safety goggles or facemasks etc) are used at all times
  • Responsible for escalating incidents through the agreed channels and filing reports and should have an understanding of relevant Health and Safety information and practices, including RIDDOR
  • Expected to communicate organisational vision and goals to the wider team and also support and disseminate company policies and procedures to ensure workforce compliance; this may include identifying barriers and overcoming them

They will be expected to support the team's development through coaching and mentoring and manage talent and performance The applicant is expected to display a high level of professionalism when dealing with clients and stakeholders. Remain organised and calm under pressure. Be punctual and adhere to the companies' dress policy, at all times.

Things to consider

You may be required to work before 8am & after 5pm on certain days to fit in around customer requirements. Your hours of work for this position will vary from week to week, and will be dependant on the needs of the business at all times. In addition we set dates for weekend support, which is based on a one off one on basis. Actual shift patterns will mirror the needs of the business at all times. Your development in the workplace is supported by monthly college attendance, where you will undertake monthly workshops to support the core knowledge element of your apprenticeship programme. Working alongside college attendance will require time management and organisational skills and you will be expected to manage this, with the support of your line manager. As an apprentice, you will be expected to spend 1 day per week either in college or within the workplace, working towards your apprenticeship programme and at the end of your programme you will be assessed by an independent End Point Assessment Organisation, through a competency based interview (supported by a portfolio of evidence summary), professional discussion, knowledge test and assessment of your portfolio of evidence. On successful completion of your apprenticeship you will gain and industry designed apprenticeship, L5 Diploma in Leadership and Management and the option to apply for professional registration with CMI.
