READY FOR AN IMMEDIATE START:

We are looking for a commis chef apprentice, who has the ambition to become a chef, can learn on their feet and be passionate about food. They will require their own transport and must be available to work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday approximately 37 to 40 hours per week from 13.00 to 21.00 but must be flexible with the hours.

As well as the listed job duties and the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you will learn whilst on your apprenticeship, we also offer you the chance to work with our head chef who was formally the private dining chef to Castle Howard and Earl Spencer and also Gastro pub winner 2016 (Good Pub Guide) with thirty five years experience.

Duties will include:

Maintaining high standards of hygiene:

  • Preparing the ingredients for the senior chef
  • Measuring dish ingredients and portion sizes accurately
  • Dealing with deliveries and stock rotation
  • Industry principles, equipment and health and safety procedures

How to prepare and cook the following foods:

  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Meat and poultry
  • Fish and shellfish
  • Pasta, noodles, rice, eggs and vegetable protein
  • Game and offal
  • Stocks, soups and sauces
  • Bread, dough and pastry
  • Cakes, sponges, biscuits and scones
  • Cold and hot desserts

No desired skills are required, just a passion for food and learning!

Personal qualities:

  • Hard working
  • Able to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work to deadlines/under pressure
  • Able to follow orders but have the strength to work using own initiative
  • Friendly yet professional

Desired qualifications:
No previous qualifications required but a good standard of English and maths at Level 1 would be desirable.

Future prospects:
The potential to progress within the business or undertake further learning.

Things to consider:

  • Must have your own transport or the easy ability to travel to and from work
  • Be flexible with your working hours where necessary
  • Able to work Wednesdays - Sundays from 1pm - 9pm
  • Be prepared to learn new skills and knowledge whilst you work

Training to be provided:

A commis chef is the most common starting position in many kitchens and in principal the most junior culinary role. A commis chef prepares food and carries out basic cooking tasks under the supervision of a more senior chef. The primary objective of the commis chef is to learn and understand how to carry out the basic functions in every section of the kitchen.
