Key responsibilities will include

Processing financial transactions:
  • Processing purchase orders and invoices in accordance with the financial procedures
  • Processing other transactions (e.g. grant making ) timely and accurately
  • Processing all transactions accurately and on time
  • Maintaining accurate and timely accounting ledgers - Accounts Payable, Cashbook and Nominal Ledger
  • Assisting the Head of Finance & Operations in making timely payments to suppliers and staff as required
  • Providing a finance service that is responsive to the needs of Youth Futures and its stakeholders

Banking:
  • Recording cash transactions on the finance system
  • Undertaking timely and accurate bank reconciliations
  • Checking, reconciling and recording credit card transactions
  • Routine monitoring of liquidity position and proposing cash movements
  • Routine liaison with grant management partners re forecasts, cashflows and transfers

Maintaining robust financial controls and business processes:
  • Monitoring compliance with the financial procedures and other business controls
  • Assisting the Head of Finance & Operations in reviewing and improving the financial procedures
  • Maintaining the integrity of the finance system and coding structure
  • Maintaining an accurate and effective filing system
  • Maintaining relationships with 3rd party service providers to support delivery

Reporting and Planning
  • Producing standard management accounts reports
  • Producing budget management reports for budget holders and acting as first point of contact for queries
  • Operating financial forecasting processes to support production of updated forecasts

Administration
  • Supporting cost effective and efficient provision of operational requirements including travel booking, courier, storage and archiving
  • Day to day transactional liaison with key partners (investment managers, finance systems providers, bank, corporate credit card)
  • Internal admin support for finance and ops systems used by the team (e.g. Xero, expenses system, invoice approval system)
  • Day to day liaison with IT service providers
  • Potential to extend across wider range of ops team responsibilities, such as HR, admin, etc.


Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • You must have experience of working in accountancy
  • Financially literate with strong attention to detail and ability to explain financial issues to all comers
  • Outcome focused, with a commercial mindset and excellent business acumen whilst remaining systematic and rigorous
  • Experience within newly formed organisations, leading aspects of process set up
  • Previous responsibility for some non-finance operations
  • Experience in not-for-profit organisations is an advantage
  • Good communication skills


Personal qualities

This is an exciting opportunity in a newly forming organisation. As such, many of the systems and processes that are normal in an established organisation either do not exist or are newly forming. To be successful in this role, the candidate will need:

Desired qualifications

  • AAT Level 3or accounts experience
  • Minimum of 5 GCSE (or equivalent) at grades 5/C or higher which must include English Language (not literature) and maths at grade 5 (grade C) or above


Future prospects

There will be progression opportunities into a permanent role in the Finance Team, as well as involvement in the broader remit of the Youth Futures Foundation vision and mission through cross team working and bringing their own lived experiences to help inform what we do to tackle youth unemployment.

The salary is £20,000-£22,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.
