The Digital Marketing Apprentice works closely with both the Marketing and Communities, Communications and Partnerships (CCP) functions to promote Urban&Civic's places and tell community stories through engaging, well-crafted and time relevant content and campaigns on our websites, social media and other e-channels.

The role's key objective is to support the development and building of a broad-based community and place "brand" for the new development at Waterbeach. This will be actioned by driving positive recognition of the project and delivering regular engaging content as the development rolls out. This will include from the planning process, landscaping and infrastructure going in, to houses and facilities emerging; addressing construction issues and impacts with local communities; and showcasing the Waterbeach experience and lifestyle to potential buyers, renters and investors.

The Apprentice will take direction and agree an overall workplan, aligned to their course curriculum, from Rebecca Britton and Keith Bendall who head up the Communities, Communications and Partnerships and the Marketing functions respectively. On a day-to-day basis the Apprentice will also work closely with other members of the teams and project members on campaign delivery. This will ensure an effective and steady development path over the four years of their degree course.

Duties will include:
  • Supporting the Head of Marketing, Head of Communities, Communications and Partnerships and their teams in the delivery of digital communications and marketing
  • Building an effective and mutually beneficial working relationship with relevant Marketing, Communications, Development and Project Management colleagues
  • Using these relationships to keep informed of construction timelines and potential issues
  • Working with the team to develop digital campaign and content plans to address these issues
  • Supporting the Marketing function in the promotion of Waterbeach as a residential, commercial and local retail location
  • Working with the marketing team to deliver digital aspects of the development(s) annual Communications and Marketing Plan
  • Learning how to act as day to day brand guardian for the digital aspects of our brands
  • Over time leveraging and building existing relationships with relevant house-builder marketing contacts and local partner digital leads and champions to deliver relevant digital campaign content
  • In the future supporting the development of websites and digital tools to improve resident and future buyer's digital brand experience
  • Working with the relevant internal and external support to ensure PR colleagues have excellent digital content to promote
  • Working with and supporting Marketing and CCP colleagues to deliver the day to day management of the website and social media content

Note: as part of their development the intern may be asked to accompany CCP colleagues to public and stakeholder events to build understanding of the needs of different audiences.

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Existing technical skills in digital platforms are a plus


Personal qualities

  • Demonstrable interest in digital and social media
  • Clear interest in people's buying or renting motivations and the need to tailor messaging to different audiences
  • Understanding of 'communities of interest' and the role of social media in community building
  • A can do, creative but pragmatic attitude
  • Interest in how data and insight can drive strong commercial outcomes
  • Previous experience of community involvement or volunteering is a plus


Desired qualifications

96 UCAS Tariff points (or equivalent) and 3 GSCEs (or equivalent) at C/4 or above which must include maths and English.

Applicants with relevant work experience or other qualifications will also be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Future prospects

The Digital Marketing Apprentice will begin by being based at and focusing their work on the Waterbeach project with responsibilities and experience expanding across our other Cambridgeshire sites - Wintringham at St Neots and Alconbury Weald - over the four years of the contract. Flexibility on main work location would be beneficial to the role (but is not essential) however, travel between sites for meetings with colleagues will be required for the position.
