What will the apprentice be doing?

The role of data analyst apprentice will be wide and varied and there will be a rotation around different parts of the health intelligence system, hosted by PHE's Local Knowledge and Intelligence Service. You will be analysing data and intelligence from various sources, working closely with PHE and its regional and local partners to inform strategies around health protection, health improvement, and tackling health inequalities with a particular focus on the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

You will be working towards a level 4 higher certificate in data analysis, delivered by our provider AvadoLearning. Your trianing will be majority online under current COVD-19 guidelines, and there may be some attendance at class based activity when it is deemed safe to do so. The training is delivered to a schedule over a 24 month period and consists of modules, portfolio submission and an End Point Assessment to assess your competency as a data analyst.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Once you have completed this qualification there may be other opportunities to undertake a higher level analytics qualification in data science at level 6. You will be able to apply for positions within the organisation or successor organisation or across the wider Civil Service.

Public Health England and the data analytics function is expected to transition into its successor organisation the National Institute for Health Protection in the spring of 2021.
