Job Details

A career that will deliver change. Together, we can help Britain achieve net zero.

As a graduate, you’ll be looking to make an impact – using your skills, knowledge and passion to achieve great things. So how about taking on the challenge of beating climate change?

Being Britain’s biggest generator of low carbon electricity, EDF are not only talking about climate change, we’re doing something about it. We’re committed to reducing carbon emissions to zero, generating power from clean sources like wind, nuclear and solar, leading the charge for electric vehicles and investing in new carbon cutting technologies.

We proudly work together to champion a low carbon lifestyle and collaborate widely in our search for innovations to achieve more.  Build your future with us. Share our vision. Together we’ll help Britain achieve net zero.

The Opportunity:

If you’re passionate about Civil or Design Engineering and have an interest in nuclear energy, look no further than our Design Engineering Graduate Scheme, where you’ll be exposed to our Nuclear New Build business areas as you complete various assignments during the 30-month programme.  By the end of it, you’ll be ready to embark on a range of uniquely rewarding design engineer careers in Nuclear Development and will be well on the way to Chartership with the Institution of Civil Engineering ("ICE").

There’s no better time to join the scheme as progress is made on Hinkley Point C, the largest construction project in Europe, and plans to develop a second project at Sizewell C have commenced. We want to share this exciting journey with you as you start your life-long career with EDF shaping the energy industry of the future.

The Training Programme:

You’ll spend the first 12 months of the scheme working in Edvance UK or Hinkley Point C (“HPC”) in the South West, where you will spend time at our design office in Aztec West (Bristol) or in the site-based engineering teams at HPC.

The final 18 months of your programme will be spent at our design offices in France. You will gain more experience and develop your skills, whilst being mentored by our Design Engineering experts. Your final role will be identified as a Design Engineer within one of our Edvance UK design offices and include positions within the design teams for piping, civils and layout, process and electrical system design.

The Future:

Within one year of completion of the programme you’ll be applying the skills and knowledge you have gained as you build your career in design engineering. After two years you should be ready to move into a more technically advanced role and possibly take on some supervisory and leadership responsibilities. Five years from completing the programme you could be a technical specialist or manager and be able to apply your experience in numerous areas of EDF Group, not to mention being well on your way to becoming a Chartered Engineer.

The Skills:

  • 2:1 Bachelor’s Degree or a Postgraduate Degree (obtained or expected) in Civil Engineering
  • A genuine interest in nuclear energy
  • Desire to learn and develop your skills during and after the scheme
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills
  • Flexibility to relocate
  • Ability to speak and write French, or an aptitude to learn the language to a high standard with full support given

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Starting salary of £27,500 and regular pay reviews
  • 25 days’ annual leave
  • Pension scheme
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Flexible benefits package
  • Wellbeing and support services
  • Relocation support for moving between attachments and into a new role after the programme.
