Apprentice Clinical Technologist

The Medical Equipment Management Service (MEMS) and the Radiation Equipment Servicing (RES) Section in the Medical Physics Department at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust (GSTT) are looking to recruit two Apprentice Clinical Technologists.

The MEMS Section supports a vast array of medical equipment based around the latest technology throughout both of our hospital sites and in the community. The RES section maintains and repairs radiotherapy treatment machines (Linacs) which are used to treat people with cancer.

As an apprentice, you will receive on-the-job training and experience. You will work across both teams for agreed periods, assisting in repair and maintenance of advanced medical equipment.

The successful applicant will be funded to undertake a Level 2 Diploma, leading to a Level 4 Diploma if successful, in Clinical Engineering.

The apprenticeship is fixed term training contract lasting for 18 months, with the expectation of extension for a further 2 years to complete Level 4. The entry requirement for the apprenticeship is 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 minimum (must include maths and English, and a science or technology subject), or other equivalent qualification (you will need to show us your qualification certificates before appointment). There will be a gateway assessment after 1 year, which the apprentice will need to pass in order to continue on the programme.

The starting salary is currently £18,967.20 a year. It will increase over the course of the apprenticeship. The Trust will also pay for your travel for the first month and give you a £50 voucher to spend in high street shops.

60% of Top of Band 4 - (6 months) = £18967.2

65% of Top of Band 4 - (12 months) = £20175.05
