  • Catch up on Slack messages in the design systems channels, helping people decide what components to use where, and providing support to others using the system
  • Attend a design critique to learn more about how designers work, and how you can best engage with them as a developer
  • Review a pull request from another developer in your team
  • Participate in a team discussion with the designers and the mobile engineers, trying to align on cross-platform component behaviour / interface

  • Write some usage guidelines for a new component to add to our documentation

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • We hope you'll come with curiosity and a willingness to listen, learn and participate
  • Because our work requires us to weed out visual inconsistencies, we expect you to practice and develop your attention to detail

Personal qualities

  • You're curious, with a hunger for not just fixing problems but exploring why and how things happen

Desired qualifications

  • Five GCSE grades C - A* (4-9) or equivalent, including English and Maths
  • Level 3 qualification (A level, BTEC or equivalent)
  • Three months' prior coding experience

Future prospects

After your Software Engineering apprenticeship, you can progress into a junior developer role (this includes web and app development). You'll have the skills to continue growing within a tech team, and have enough knowledge/experience to pick up new languages with ease. Software Engineering Level 4 will also provide a good foundation for transitioning into data science.
