You will be responsible for creating and developing engineering systems for departments such as Body/Chassis, Electrical & Vehicle Engineering, Powertrain, Product Engineering Operations or Supplier Technical Assistance. From concept through to production, ensuring they meet functional, legal & sustainability requirements, designed for manufacture & assembly, and optimised for quality, weight and cost.

On your journey to becoming an expert in Product Engineering, you will learn to use cutting edge digital engineering toolsets such as CAD and CAE, become experts in system and sub-system engineering, acquire in-depth knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, and gain the ability to solve complex engineering problems. These are just some of the skills you will develop and need to deliver pioneering engineering excellence for our future products. You will be a core member of the Product Engineering team, contributing directly to the development of new vehicles whilst mentored by industry experts.
To ensure the delivery of quality vehicles product compliance is high on our agenda. As an Apprentice in this area you will develop an understanding of the end to end process from regulations being issued through certification to conformity of production and investigations. You will be involved in both internal and external investigations, developing coordinated Jaguar Land Rover responses to compliance issues and learn to use data to drive to solutions, and coordinate the team to produce fast results.

The Apprenticeship

The Applied Professional Engineering Apprenticeship (Level 6) is a four-year programme, where you earn whilst you learn.

During Year one and two, apprentices will spend their time in off the job training provided by the University of Warwick and also within the workplace.

In Year three and four you will study specialised subjects in line with your chosen pathway. Your final year of your apprenticeship will see you complete your end-point assessment and achieve your Level 6 Apprenticeship, ready for an amazing career in a permanent role within Engineering.

Personal Skills for Professional Excellence, Engineering Mathematics, Mechanics and Energy Methods, Electrical and Electronic Systems 1, Applied Engineering Design + Technical Operations Management, Quality methods, Workshop Skills + DFM + MMP, Industrial Digitalisation, Engineering Systems, Dynamic Mechanics & Thermofluids, instrumentation & Control, Numerical Methods for Modelling, Project Management & Leadership and CAD/CAM.
Specialism Modules (Year 3 & 4)
Advanced Qualities Techniques, Productionising Designs, Mechatronics & Control Systems, Networking Infrastructure Communication and Interoperability of Systems, CAE (CFD, FEA) & Physical Correlation, Industrial Processes, Materials for Advanced Applications, Stress Analysis, Functional Systems and Aerodynamics.

Following the successful completion of your Apprenticeship you could find yourself working in one of the following areas: Body/Chassis, Electrical & Vehicle Engineering, Product Engineering Operations or Quality.

Personal qualities

In addition to the academic requirements at the assessment stage we will also look for evidence of other qualifications, knowledge, experience or qualities - for example a third A-level or other further academic qualifications; a substantial time in employment or voluntary activity; a technical project or hobby or substantial responsibilities as a carer.

We will also be looking for you to demonstrate your passion for the role and explain your motivation for wanting to join our Applied Professional Engineer Programme as a degree apprentice.

Desired qualifications

GCSE maths and English Language at level 5 (C) or higher and in addition 3 additional GCSEs level 5 (C) or above to include one STEM subject or Engineering Vocational qualification level 3/ 90 credits/540 GLH or higher.

In addition A level maths at grade B or higher and a second A level at grade C or above in Physics; Chemistry; Engineering or Design & Technology.
