The responsibilities are as below, but are not limited to:
  • Bookkeeping for SME businesses using Xero, QuickBooks and SAGE
  • Liaising with clients on any queries
  • Filing source documents for all journal entries recorded
  • Posting journal entries to ledger accounts
  • Preparing trial balances
  • Performing bank reconciliations
  • Preparing cash flow statements
  • Preparing management accounts
  • General Reporting
  • Performing other duties as required
  • Researching

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Having experience in multi-currency reconciliations and EC VAT will be highly desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of working in accounting practice/industry

Personal qualities

  • Must be highly organised, proactive and a self-starter
  • Able to prioritise workload and be self-sufficient
  • Can work well under pressure and in a very busy environment
  • A team player, with active participation in the team, in addition to being able to work on their own as required
  • Friendly and helpful with a can-do work ethic
  • Flexible and able to prioritise a changing to do list

Desired qualifications

Three or more years' experience
  • AAT Level 3 Bookkeeping
  • Intermediate MS Office, including Excel, Word

Candidates will have Level 2 maths and English (equivalent to GCSE grade C/4 or above), ideally as part of 5 GCSE C/4 or above grades or other comparable qualifications. Apprentices without English or maths at Level 2 must achieve this prior to the completion of the apprenticeship.

Future prospects

The Professional accounting or tax technician standard allows student registration with a number of UK professional bodies in this sector. If a candidate seeks to become a member of a professional body there may be other requirements specific to the relevant professional body, which may be taken as part of, or alongside, the Apprenticeship at the employer's and candidate's discretion.

Completion of the professional accounting or tax technician apprenticeship may lead to the candidate receiving credits towards the completion of the Professional accountant or tax apprenticeship or chartered Accountancy or taxation qualifications provided by the relevant professional bodies.

Completion of the professional accounting or tax technician apprenticeship may also result in credits being awarded towards relevant undergraduate degree programmes.
