We have a new and exciting opportunity to train as a pharmacy technician through a 2 year apprenticeship programme. Pharmacy technicians prepare and supply medicines for prescriptions, under the supervision of a pharmacist. Pharmacy technicians will increasingly play an important role supporting patients with their medicines , complementing clinical pharmacists, community pharmacists and other members of the primary care multi-disciplinary team such as GPs and nurses. Pharmacy technicians work in a variety of settings and undertake a wide range of duties including dispensing and accuracy checking of prescribed items, , providing information to patients and other healthcare professionals, procurement and issue of medicines. This is a fantastic opportunity to undertake a formal professional qualification whilst learning on the job.

Successful candidates will undertake an innovative two-year apprenticeship with rotational placements in GP Practices, Community Pharmacy and Hospital pharmacy. There are two full-time positions available employed by Gloucestershire Clinical Commissioning Group; one position is available in Stroud locality and one in the Forest of Dean.

Each post-holder will work with three partnership organisations; a community pharmacy, a GP surgery and hospital pharmacy. This collaborative apprenticeship will provide all the necessary skills and knowledge to complete the new Level 3 Diploma in the Principles and Practice of Pharmacy Technicians. Training will be carried out via distance learning on a day release basis. Trainees who successfully complete the 2 year apprenticeship will be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council and practice as a Registered Pharmacy Technician and although every effort will be made to provide a substantive position at the end of the training period this cannot be guaranteed, although new opportunities continue to emerge as local health systems develop.

You are required to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be able to work efficiently and accurately, pay attention to detail and be able to integrate into multiple teams. You will need to be highly committed to achieve this qualification as it requires participation and completion of a vigorous training and competency program. You will need to demonstrate excellent work/study/life balance skills and be very self-motivated.

Entry requirements for this post are a minimum of 4 GCSE's at grade 4/C or above (or equivalent) to include English, Maths and 2 science subjects. Due to the rotational nature of placements candidates must be willing and able to travel between sites. Full time salary for the role will be £16,909 increasing to £18,117 in the 2nd year
