Project Development Nurse - South London Partnership Nurse Development Programme

GRADE: 7

DIRECTORATE: Nursing

HOURS OF WORK: Full Time (37.5 Hours)

TENURE: Internal Secondment - 12 months

An exciting developmental opportunity has arisen to recruit dynamic and highly motivated Project Development Nurses to be part of the South London Partnership, Nurse Development Programme.

Our South London Partnership is an established partnership bringing together clinical expertise, experience and innovation from Oxleas, South London and Maudsley and South West London NHS Foundation Trusts and St Georges Mental Health Trust. We aim to improve quality, use our resources most effectively, and deliver best practice consistently to all, in a population of 3.6 million. The programme is underpinned by our strategic approach to workforce of which nurses form the largest part.

Our SLP Nursing Development Programme aims to improve retention, develop flexible workforce across south London for future mental healthcare, including increased community provision, standardise quality, competencies, development frameworks and sharing innovation, training and opportunities. Building on the programme's success to date, the next phase is to continue to deliver our plans for a new workforce fully incorporating apprenticeship opportunities, advancing clinical practice and specifically developing community mental health teams skills, competencies and new roles to meet requirements of new models of care and long term plan ambitions and establish shared standards. The programme contributes to the delivery of continuing to improve retention, supporting people to stay in their jobs and creating better career pathways for staff in all professional groups.

Working with the Associate Directors of Nursing and the Programme Manager, the Project Development Nurses will support the delivery of the core work streams across the three organizations through a matrix management structure and most importantly will act as a champion for nursing development. This includes:
  • Conducting a thorough workforce review of all nursing apprenticeship opportunities across SLP and identify target establishment for each clinical area for nursing associates to inform training and establishment plans for the next three years;
  • Conducting a review of all nurses in post across SLP with the potential to meet advanced clinical practice roles and approved clinical practice competencies and establish the gaps and plans to fill to enable this for the next three years. Scoping our opportunities for new advanced clinical practice roles and approved clinician and responsible clinician roles across SLP and enable staff to commence development into these roles for the next 3 years
  • Co-creating community mental health teams' skills, competencies and new roles to meet requirements of new models of care and long term plan ambitions and establish shared standards across SLP.

  • The post holder will be a registered nurse, educated to degree level with demonstrable experience of managing change through working with others, experience of co-ordinating and a commitment to learner development and developing new roles. The post holder must be able to work with a range of stakeholders, engaging teams, creating and delivering presentations and preparing reports on progress.
