The BSW Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health Team is a multi disciplinary team, which provides support for women who experience serious mental health problems or present with a high risk of relapse during pregnancy and the postnatal period. We offer assessment and treatment aimed at treating mental ill health and enhancing the mother infant relationship, where mental health needs have impacted upon this. We provide multi agency training in perinatal mental health to other professionals and agencies working with women in the perinatal period in addition to offering consultation and advice. The team is able to work alongside women and their families from pregnancy until their infants first birthday.

The Specialist Community Perinatal Team works across BaNES, Swindon and Wiltshire. We have a hub and spoke model - the hub is in Chippenham, Wiltshire. There are spoke bases in Paulton (BaNES), Swindon and Salisbury. This post is to primarily cover North and Mid Wiltshire and would be based in Chippenham. However, there is an expectation to be able to work flexibly which might require you to occasionally work over a larger area if required. Pre Covid the whole team met in Chippenham every Tuesday. The expectation is that a similar arrangement will be made in the future however, at present, there is a significant amount of home working to this role.

Perinatal Mental Health is a rapidly expanding area with significant investment being made. This means that there will be high quality training and potential opportunities for career development for the successful candidate.

This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced and professionally registered Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Social Worker to join our passionate team to deliver the above services. You must have experience of working with women in the perinatal period or a good understanding of the specific mental health issues that can affect these women.
