What will the apprentice be doing?

Through a combination of on-the-job technical training and time studying at university, Software Apprentices will develop the skills to effectively design, create, and test software. Working closely with other teams and departments, you will work through a variety of stages in the software development process, covering anything from embedded systems to front end software. This software will be developed on a range of platforms, including Linux and Windows, utilising C/C++, LabView and Java.

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

MBDA offers a four-year programme for Software Apprentices to join the Software Engineering Team, whilst studying part time for a fully funded degree in Digital and Technology Solutions at Weston College.

In years 1-3, you'll have 6 x 6 month placements in each of the departments within Software and expose you to different technologies and development methodologies. In your final year, you will take on a yearlong placement in the department of your choice.

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Through regular one to ones, development plans and the use of Mentors, you will have the opportunity to shape your career within the organisation. We have many senior members in the organisation that started life as an MBDA apprentice.

As you progress towards your final year on the scheme we'll help you to understand your skills and career ambitions so we can help you to see the technical career paths that are available to you.
