Contrac are once again in a period of expansion and are recruiting for a Network Engineer. This role will predominantly support the Project Management Office and Service Desk departments with client delivery; however, the role will also support the Pre-Sales Team with proposal designs and the Technology team with the review and implementation of new network technologies and solutions.

Key deliverables throughout your employment and training will include:

Project Delivery:

Creation of network solution designs based upon client requirements. Creation of implementation and test plans for delivery. Implementation of network solutions with post implementation support. Handover of project delivery to Service Desk and, where required, training of Service Desk Analysts.

Service Desk:

Act as 3rd Line escalation point for Service Desk incident tickets. Investigation and resolution of allocated Incident Tickets and Event Notifications with agreed client Incident Categorisations with associated Service Level Agreements.

Pre-Sales:

Support the Pre-Sales Manager, as required, with proposed solution designs within Commercial Proposals for network solutions that meet client enquiry requirements.

Technology:

Work with the Head of Technology to review new network solutions and technologies to both improve and enhance Contrac's internal solutions, including the ContracCloud platform, as well as client hosted and on-premise solutions.

Contrac Engineers are required to be 'hands-on' which includes attendance at client meetings and customer sites. This role will also be expected to assist, train and develop the network skills of Service Desk Analysts and Delivery Engineers.

When representing Contrac to customers through all forms of communications (including documentation, e-mails, calls/conferences and site visits) Engineers are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manor.

The role is predominantly office based within standard working hours, however travel to other Contrac offices and Customer sites will be required. Out of hours working may also be required during out of hours deliveries and escalated 3rd Line tickets. Full drivers licence and own vehicle essential.

As a Network Engineer, the key responsibilities include:
  • An escalation point for service desk tickets for 3rd line escalations with a specific speciality in networking
  • Accountable for all tickets assigned for investigation, resolution, customer communications and SLA escalation
  • Ownership or input to proposed solutions with a specific speciality in Networks
  • Ownership or input to solution designs at all levels (High Level, Low Level and Technical) with a specific speciality in Networks
  • Creation of test plans to ensure required quality of implementations
  • Creation of deployment plans to meet customer requirements and provide relevant levels of risk management
  • Implementation of agreed and approved solutions to agreed quality standards within specified timelines
  • Completion of all required documentation as required
  • Providing senior technical input, with a specific speciality in Networks, to internal and customer meeting
  • Investigation and Resolution of escalated Service Desk Tickets
  • Updates to Service Management System
  • Communication with Customers on ticket progress and status
  • SLA escalations to Service Management Team
  • Proposed Solutioning within Customer Proposals
  • Change/Project Design Documentation
  • Test Approach and Test Scripts
  • Implementation and Deployment Plans
  • Risk and Issue identification, mitigation and updates
  • Implementation of Solution Designs to Customer satisfaction

Requirements and prospects

Desired skills

  • Overall comprehension of communication protocols (Mainly TCP/IP) and routing protocols (e.g. BGP, OSPF) WAN, LAN, WLAN desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • The ability to organise and prioritise your own workload
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Knowledge of a variety of software and their functionality
  • Knowledge of Cloud services and experience of 1st and 2nd line support
