What will the apprentice be doing?

Providing commercial and procurement support to project managers

Tendering, awarding and monitoring low value, low risk contracts supporting construction project delivery

Explaining commercial guidance and providing commercial advice to internal customers

Keeping up to date on changing legislation / best practice

Supporting and maintaining effective customer and supplier relationships

Using electronic sourcing and contract management systems

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?

The apprenticeship sits within a permanent role and takes approximately 24 months to complete. It covers elements of business, economics and cost management. You will learn on the job and via online learning and face to face workshops. Successful completion of the apprenticeship will give you the skills and practical experiences needed to obtain a Level 4 Diploma in Procurement & Supply with the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS).

What is the expected career progression after this apprenticeship?

Completion of the apprenticeship makes you eligible for professional membership of the CIPS.

This is a permanent role and after completion you will continue to support the Commercial team providing commercial and procurement support and advice on high value complex programmes - primarily in construction and civil engineering, and supporting the Environment Agency. In parallel we will support you to continue your development and career progression within Defra and the wider civil service.
