More about us - Western Sussex is an acute trust with three hospitals; Worthing Hospital and St Richard's in Chichester provide emergency, inpatient and outpatient care; and Southlands in Shoreham-by-Sea provides outpatient care and day surgery. Since April 2017, the senior leadership team has also managed neighbouring trust Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Department of Medicine as a Band 6 Registered Nurse , as a Deputy Ward Manager / Sister on Boxgrove ward at St Richards and is part of the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Boxgrove ward is a 27 bedded ward. We are an acute medical ward for the elderly, caring for medically unwell patients, with many complex medical issues . We have a focus and passion towards the frail patient and implementing at ward level many nurse led tools to support the service within the organisation

The ward works as a multidisciplinary team and values all members of the team achieving high standards of care. We create and support a learning and teaching culture within the ward and have a team that encompasses associates and apprenticeship roles . It undertakes complex discharges trying to ensure all social aspects are addressed before patients leave the ward.

The Boxgrove Team comprises of committed and dedicated Consultants, doctors, Senior and Junior Nurses, who ensure we give holistic care to each individual who comes onto our ward. The ward is also supported by an enthusiastic and established multidisciplinary team comprising of pharmacists, occupational and physiotherapists and a discharge co-ordinator.

We are seeking a dynamic, motivated nurse that is an enthusiastic and hardworking leader of our future, who has a passion for delivering the best care to all of our patients. We promote good team work and offer supportive mentoring, demonstrating a positive attitude to the supervision of learners working on the Ward. As a band 6 you will be expected to assist the Band 7 to lead this multi-disciplinary team, and bring a positive attitude to the department and have a flexible approach to working, coupled with outstanding communications skills, both written and verbal. You will assist in the mentorship of junior nurses, and at times be leading the ward in the absence of the ward sister. As a department, we are committed to supporting and developing all Nurses, in order for each individual to flourish in their role, this will include assisting you in developing your career pathway alongside a team of highly skilled nurses. We have links with Brighton University and the University of Surrey. We are a dynamic, friendly and supportive team who are committed to providing high quality patient care whilst achieving the Clinical Quality Indicators and other national targets. if you think you are up to this challenge and have 2 years experience at band 5 please apply.
